Ceramic tiles were a collaborative project with colleague Anthony Dinh. We chose to explore the potential further use of ceramic tiles in hospitals. Our proposed tile design aims to purify the air inside patient rooms and corridors to bring a calming, aesthetic form to the hospital environment. Hence why we proceeded with an organic shape.
The form was created by 3D modelling using Rhino with the Grasshopper plugin, thus making it a parametric model. The Grasshopper script utilised sine waves to create the undulating texture of the surface.
The model was then CNC in renshape for the master mould in order to create subsequent plaster moulds. It was then slip casted and finally high fired in a kiln.
